Email service has been restored, and SharePoint, Intranet, Helpdesk, Costpoint, and eTimesheets are back online. Citrix, and some minor servers are on schedule to be brought back online on schedule. What is the Data Center Move?
To better serve you, the company has made the decision to move our primary data center from the Farm Credit building to a 3rd party facility. This transition will significantly enhance our current network resources and give us the scalability we need to provide additional services as the company expands. In addition, the 3rd party facility provides us with redundant power, cooling and Internet access. This solid underlying infrastructure will help increase the availability of critical services and offer a level of reliability that does not exist in our current facility.
When will it take place?
The data center move will take place over Veteran’s Day weekend November 11-14, 2011 and will require a downtime window during which time there will be no access to network services. All network services will be down from Friday, November 11, 2011 at 6pm and may run through Monday, November 14, 2011 at 6am.
What if I am planning to work over the weekend?
Please make every effort to avoid scheduling work over that weekend. If it is impossible to reschedule your weekend work for November 11-14, please contact Mark Cooper, Senior Director, IT @ mark.cooper@soteradefense.com to discuss alternative arrangements.
We realize that everyone is very busy and that any network downtime is inconvenient. We selected the holiday weekend in an effort to minimize the impact Be assured, throughout the data center move, the entire IT team will work to restore services quickly and limit the impact of the downtime. Critical services such as email will be priority. Further details will be sent in another communication regarding how best to check the status during this outage window.
Moving our data center is a great step forward for Sotera and in the end will benefit all of us with scalable, more efficient, more reliable network resources that allow us plenty of room to grow.
