Sotera was originally founded in 1969 as Sachs Freedman Associates (SFA, Inc.), a provider of technology services to the federal government. In 2007, SFA Inc. was acquired by Global Strategies Group, a leading provider of integrated security and defense technology. On November 25, 2009 Sotera completed an initial public offering of its common stock on The Nasdaq Global Market as Global Defense Technology & Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: GTEC). On April 4, 2011 the company was acquired by Ares Management and changed names to Sotera Defense Solutions, Inc. (Sotera).
